The Jemdet Nasr tradition occurred from around 5100 to 4900 BP. In many ways this tradition is a continuation of the Late Chalcolithic Mesopotamia (Uruk period) of settled agriculturalists, but occupies a smaller territory, in southern Iraq. Cities were governed from administrative/temple complexes with the help of stamps, seals, and early writing to record administrative and economic activities. There was limited interaction with other cities and limited international trade.
