Lower Egypt Predynastic is found in the Lower Nile valley from Sedment north to the Mediterranean and into the Fayum depression. The time period extends from 7000 BP to 5000 BP. The people were sedentary agriculturalists, mostly living in villages at the end of the time period. Archaeologically, settlements usually consist of a series of pits that represent ephemeral habitation structures, storage or refuse pits, and burials. At the end of the time period, interregional trade is important and may indicate a chiefdom level society. In the Fayum people were less sedentary and more dependent on gathering, fishing, and hunting.
