Abstract
The author provides an overview of the Early Harappan phase throughout the Indus Valley, discussing the independent origin and continuity of the archaeological traditions beginning with the Neolithic, the traits that lead to the urbanization of the Indus Civilization starting around 3500 BC, and external areas that continue an Early Harappan/Kot Dijian way of life beyond 2400 BC.
