AB  - This is a historical reconstruction of Scythian life based partially on historical sources (e.g., the works of the fifth century B.C. Greek historian Herodotus), and partially on the analysis of the grave goods from numerous, primarily 'royal' tombs, in the areas occupied by the Scythians. From the analysis of the above sources of information, Rolle describes tomb construction and embalming techniques, the physical appearance and dress of the people, weapons and warfare, blood-brotherhood, female military organization, trade, animal husbandry (with emphasis on the horse), mortuary sacrifices, households and settlements, and political structure. A useful Scythian chronology dating from the eighth century B.C. to the third century A.D. appears on pp. 132-134 of the text.
