In the Amatzinac region it appears the Teotihuacan state colonized the area as evidenced by the influx of Teotihuacan-style ceramics, the change in settlement patterns, agricultural intensification, and Teotihuacan offerings in burial assemblages. This area is along a natural trade corridor. In Coatlan there are fewer Teotihuacan-style ceramics, what does appear came later, and changes in settlement patterns suggest Teotihuacan deliberately decentralized the population to reduce the level of social complexity in that region. %K Mexico %K Antiquities %K Central Mexico Classic %K Acculturation and culture contact %K Dependencies %K Ceramic technology %K External trade %K Settlement patterns %U https://ehrafarchaeology.yale.edu/document?id=nu92-008 %P 135-150 %[ 2021-01-28
