Abstract
This is an introduction to a journal issue devoted to the archaeology of Hinduism. It defines Hinduism and provides a brief overview of the Hindu religion and some of the possible, more ancient, elements of the religion in South and Southeast Asia. In addition to the broad geographic reach, the time period discussed ranges from 5000 to 1000 BP, not entirely relevant to the Vedic period in India and Pakistan.
