Abstract: The authors describe the history of Paleoindian and Early Archaic research in South Carolina and the surrounding states. They point out some of the research and data collection biases. They briefly describe what archaeological remains have been found. They discuss using the site files archived at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology for research and briefly what those records say about the distribution of Paleoindian and Early Archaic components.
