Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
The Alpowa Locality was studied as part of the salvage excavations in the Lower Granite Dam Reservoir area. Several sites were studied. Three sites had archaeological assemblages dated to the Cascade Phase: 45AS78, 45AS82, and 45AS87X. The assemblages of interest are: assemblage 78-A-1 (or Component 78-1); assemblages 82-5-1, 82-C-1A, 82-C-1B, 82-C-2, and 45AS87X (or Component 82-1). The main interest is the discovery of a house floor (House 5) dated to 4060±130 B.P. that contained a Cascade Phase artifact assemblage. The excavations were carried out in such a manner that activitiy areas inside and outside the house were identified.
