Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document This is a report on the faunal analysis final Natufian phase from the Mureybet site in northern Syria. Helmer identifies the different species present in the faunal remains, their source (steppe or riverine) and compares these samples with those from other Natufian sites. The author also distinguishes remains according to evidence of consumption patterns, i.e., burnt, disarticulated, etc. The evidence shows a diverse hunting pattern with an initial focus on fish and fowl to a more specialized pattern of hunting larger mammels, such as gazelle.
