Abstract
Mathews re-examined the Jemdet Nasr materials from the 1926 field season under the direction of S. Langdon and the 1928 field season under the direction of L. Watelin. He also compared the material to other excavated sites to 'place the Jemdet Nasr assemblage within a wider Mesopotamian contex.' (page 1). He shows that 'it is justifiable to speak of a Jemdet Nasr period, distinct from the Late Uruk and Early Dynastic periods,…' (page 1). He identifies materials that appear to be diagnostic of the Jemdet Nasr period and shows that similar materials are restricted in geographical area. He describes some of the architecture, tablets, ceramics, seals, and other artifact types from these excavations. Although the site and many of the artifacts date from the Late Uruk through the Early Dynastic Period, only the data that pertains to the Jemdet Nasr time period was indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) subjects.
