By: Nissen, Hans Jörg.

Abstract
Nissen summarizes what was known about tablets, seals, and sealings from Ur, Uruk, 'Uquair, Jemdet Nasr, and the Diyala region in 1986 and briefly discusses their development. Most of these artifacts came from poor stratigraphic contexts. They probably had a short use-life and were quickly discarded. As many of these have been found in building fill, Nissen describes their stratigraphic contexts in detail so that they can be dated.
