The state of research on Late Predynastic Egypt

By: Köhler, E. Christiana.

Abstract
E. Christiana Köhler conducted intensive research of the ceramic assemblage at Tell el-Farain-Buto. She believes the archaeological evidence does not show the Naqada expansion (which took about 500 years) to have been a military expansion. Instead, there seems to have been a shift to craft specialization. She also believes the evidence shows Upper and Lower Egypt can be better divided into three archaeological facies: the Buto-Maadi complex in the north, the Naqada facies in the south, and the Badari facies in the middle.
