Abstract
In this volume (the first of four volumes, eHRAF documents nos. 11-18) Ibrahim Rizkana and Jürgen Seeher describe the excavations and the ceramic analysis from Maadi and Wadi Digla, south of Cairo. The excavations were conducted by Cairo University with over 40,000 square meters excavated. It wasn't until 1984 that a detailed study of the documentation and artifacts was begun. (The analysis was conducted by at least 14 people over three seasons between 1984-1985.) The artifacts had been stored in magazines on the site and some deterioration of the pottery and documentation had occurred. The authors used the excavators notes and the artifacts themselves to prepare this report. Only a sample of the ceramics found were kept, so the authors do not do any statistical analyses of the pottery. The different wares are described in detail and then compared to contemporary wares from Upper Egypt and Palestine (Gaza, Israel, West Bank). This document includes the catalog of the ceramic artifacts along with drawings and some photographs of the artifacts.
