By: Kay, Marvin.

Abstract
Kay describes the envionmental setting and his research around central Missouri, especially around the Big Bend area and the Lamine River. The regional chronology is briefly touched upon. In describing the settlement system Kay believes a site along the Lamine may be a regional transaction center and that the settlement system was hierarchial. However, village interaction was mainly at the local level. Subsistence practices are described.
