Abstract
Essenpreis and Connolly had conducted excavations at Fort Ancient for many years and found habitation evidence adjacent to the earthworks. The evidence for habitation consists of discrete midden deposits with evidence of housekeeping, numerous overlapping post holes representing numerous structures over an extended period of time, a diverse artifact assemblage, and fire pits. They also found a limestone pavement of unknown function. People did use the pavement 'surface for bipolar percussion of local pebble cherts to test their suitability for further reduction.'
