By: Griffin, James Bennett.

Abstract
Griffin offers a critique of the volume, Ohio Hopewell community organization, edited by William S. Dancey and Paul J. Pacheco (eHRAF nos. 46-60). He doesn't agree with the various authors that the Hopewell only lived in small dispersed hamlets, but he is happy the problem of domestic settlement has been addressed. Griffin believes the Ohio Hopewell also lived in settlements near the mounds. Before Griffin discusses the other chapters he describes how Hopewell and the other mound builders came to be discovered and how they have been studied for the past 150 years.
