Comparing the preceramic and modern microfauna

guilá naquitz : archaic foraging and early agriculture in oaxaca, mexicoOrlando • Published In 1986 • Pages: 239-246

By: Flannery, Kent V., Wheeler, Jane C..

Abstract
Flannery and Wheeler discuss the small fauna remains in Guilá Naquitz Cave, previewed by an examination of the contents of modern owl pellets from a nearby cave. They suggest a natural deposition of such remains in archaeological strata, with commentary on peri- and post-deposition animal disturbance, but also consider the inclusion of small animals in Archaic period human diet. Only remains from stratigraphic zones C and B pertain to the Early Archaic.
