Smith first summarizes the botanical remains from Guilá Naquitz Cave, organized by plant family. This is followed by interpretation of the evidence as it relates to gathering, diet, nutrition, and incipient agriculture during the Archaic. Only botanical remains from stratigraphic zones C and B pertain to the Early Archaic.
