Abstract
This appendix to document 6 in the collection consists largely of an exhaustive inventory of the representative sample of clearly classified 82 pottery sherds dating to the Middle and Late Formative period: from the Cuicatlán Cañada Project and comparable pieces from the Oaxaca Valley (largely from Monte Albán). The results of neutron activation analysis largely confirm prior assumptions based on traditional methods of classification and seriation. Four or five compositional clusters are clearly products of the geology of the respective valley systems and of one localized clay source still employed by local potters. An important revelation is that the scale of importation of Oaxaca Valley ceramics into the Cuicatlán Cañada actually decreases with the incorporation of the latter region into the Monte Albán state during the Late Formative. Instead, local production switched to imitating the Monte Albán style, perhaps as part of meeting tribute demands by the dominant center.
