Abstract
This study reports on the progress of the Valley of Oaxaca Settlement Pattern Project and specifically on the archaeological surveys of the central and southern portions of the Valley of Oaxaca. The material presented here gives a phase-by-phase picture of changing settlement patterns, covering not only the largest and most obvious centers, but the small farmsteads as well, for the 3000 year period during which the regional society underwent several major evolutionary changes (p. 2). The document covers a wide range of data, from a description of the natural environment, to ceramics, population trends, land use, settlement patterns, culture change with time, marketing aspects, and government administration within the periods specified.
