Abstract
This is an excavation report on the Monos pyramid, the third largest structure at the El Mirador site in northern Petén, Guatemala. Its dimensions are 127 meters wide, 160 meters long, and 42 meters high. It is built in three layers or platforms. Test pits and trenches were excavated at each level to collect chronological and architectural data. Excavations were divided into natural stratigraphic layers. Nearly 4,000 sherds were recovered, of which half were identified. Of those identified, 72 percent were Late Preclassic material. Only 71 lithic specimens were collected.
