By: Adams, Richard E. W..

Abstract
In this chapter Adams examines the archeology of sites in the Becan-Chicanna-Xpujil region. There are two major cereamic complexes: Acachen (600-300 B.C.) and Pakluum (300 B.C.-250 A.D.) Extensive architectural features stem from the later period including 500 square meters of pavement, a 23-square-meter platform with red-plastered stone walls, and a three-tiered, 10-meter-high platform. Adams summerizes the theories regarding the rise of Maya civilization and discusses Mayan leadership.
