Abstract
This is a report on the excavation of the main trenches at Cuello, which reveal an earlier domestic and later ceremonial period of architectural development. The excavations uncovered altogether 19 house platforms, nine ancillary domestic platforms, six ceremonial structures and three unknown structures. The architecture of the early period consisted of low house platforms clustered around a patio not more than 20 meters wide. The architecture of the latter period consisted of higher, broader platforms, mass burials, and stepped pyramids. Swasey, Bladen, and Lopez Mamom ceramics were associated with the first period and Cocos Chicanel ceramics with the second period.
