archaeology at cerros, belize, central america : an interim report1 • Published In 1986 • Pages: 45-63

Abstract
This is a report on five excavation operations along the northern, bayside margin of the central ceremonial precinct. Wave erosion has revealed a rich depositional history of the site. Further excavations revealed that the sub-plaza deposits were produced by domestic debris. All ceramics uncovered belong to the Chicanel Ceramic Sphere of the Late Preclassic Period. Cliff discovered 13 construction episodes representing 300-400 years of occupation. The transformation of the site to a ceremonial center occurred sometime between the Late C'oh or Early Tulix periods.
