Abstract
Excavations at Taosi have provided samples across the entire site, revealing its internal organization, and field surveys have improved understanding of the settlement patterns and settlement hierarchies of the surrounding region. The author’s interpretation of these findings include changes made to Taosi through time, and its use after a probable episode of “political retribution.” Field observations confirm the function of a solar observatory at the site.
