Abstract
Serpico and White chemically analyzed the residues from fourteen jars from Djer's tomb. '[The] analysis of the contents of the imported jars could potentially provide new insights into trade during this period. The Djer group is particularly important because it includes jars of both Nile silt and foreign clays…' (page 128). 'To summarise, results to date indicate that all samples contained lipid matter, derived either from vegetable oils or animal fats.' (page 138). Most of the jars probably contained food products but some of them may have been intended for cosmetic use. One jar contained an imported resin.
