Population pressure and climate as dynamics within the Arctic Small Tool tradition of Alaska

Abstract
In this paper, Lutz relates the shift to net fishing along rivers, a characteristic feature of the Norton tradition, to the climatic shift from a cooler sub-Boreal to a warmer sub-Atlantic phase. This climatic shift favored the exploitation of salmon along major rivers where the human population became concentrated in year-round settlements.
