Akmak: an early archaeological assemblage from Onion Portage, northwest Alaska

MunksgaardKøbenhavn • Published In 1970 • Pages: 80

By: Anderson, Douglas D..

Abstract
Anderson presents the site report for the Akmak assemblage at the Onion Portage site in northwest Alaska. The excavations are described along with a summary of the complex stratigraphy. A more detailed report on the stratigraphy, post depostitional processes, and geology of the site are to be found in Hamilton, 1970 (eHRAF document no. 3). The stone tools are described and classified by form and manufacturing techniques with ample illustrations. Anderson also ponders the origins and historical relationships of this assemblage by comparing similar assemblages in Alaska, Siberia, and Japan.
