archaic hunters and gatherers in the american midwestNew York • Published In 1983 • Pages: 165-195

By: Brown, James Allison, Vierra, Robert K..

Abstract
Brown and Vierra summarize the Early and Middle Archaic findings from the Koster site (with an emphaziz on the Middle Archaic). In particular they discuss the stratigraphy and the type of artifacts and features found. They point out that 'such Late Archaic characteristics as multiseasonal base camps, permanent habitations, multiregional exchange networks, and specialized plant gathering can now be projected back before 5000 B.P.' (page 165). They also summarize the theories behind the reasearch at Koster.
