Abstract
This article addresses the nature of farmstead occupations within the Larson Phase of the Spoon River settlement system in the Central Illinois River Vallley. He notes that a critical problem in understanding this settlement system is the relationship of the central temple towns to the outlying hamlets and farmstead. Harn's analysis of the archaeological data has led him to reaffirm the position of the Larson Phase people as part of the Middle Mississippian Tradition.
