Middle Archaic animal utilization in south-central Arizona

Prehistoric hunter-gatherers of south central Arizona: the Picacho Reservoir Archaic Project, by Frank E. Bayham, Donald H. Morris, M. Steven Shackley (13) • Published In 1986 • Pages: 315-340

By: Bayham, Frank E..

Abstract
Bayham analyzed the archaeofaunal remains from 19 sites in the Picacho Reservoir study area. Only three of the sites produced sufficient quantities of bone dated to the Middle Archaic: the Arroyo site, Locus L; the Buried Dune site; and the Gate site. The faunal remains indicate 'that duration of occupation and frequency of use were the most important factors explaining intersite variability...' (pate 339). Bayham also examines and discusses the effects of faunalturbation on site formation.
