Abstract
Disagreement exists among archaeologists working in the Phoenix Basin over the validity of the Polvorón phase. The author's position is that Polvorón is a valid phase that can be identified in the archaeological record. He argues that to not separate Polvorón from the Civano phase obscures variability and change at the late end of the cultural sequence that may relate to the nature and causes of the Hohokam collapse (p. 277).
