Abstract
Spielmann summarizes the data on settlement patterns in northeastern New Mexico for the Pueblo II-Pueblo IV periods. Only the data that pertain to the Pueblo II-Pueblo III periods were marked for Outline of Cultural Materials codes. 'It is indicative of the relative lack of research on the Pueblo III period in this area that an archaeologist dealing with protohistoric and historic pueblos has been asked to summarize the current state of knowledge on this earlier period. What [Spielmann] hope[s] to convey here is a general sense of the trends in demographic and settlement patterns through a synthesis of settlement data available largely in published sources. Toward the end of the chapter [Spielmann] briefly examine[s] several models relating to the process of aggregation, and consider[s] those that appear to be most appropriate to the eastern border situation.'
