Excavations at Telixac and Huazulco

By: Majewski, Teresita.

Abstract
In 1974, Majewski excavated at two satellite sites of the Olmec-influenced highland center of Chalcatzingo within the Río Amatzinac Valley: Telixtac (dating to the later Cantera phase, 2650-2500 B.P.) and Huazulco (Late Barranca through Early Cantera phases, 2850-2500 B.P.). What may be an elite house structure associated with a mound at Telixtac produced a notable concentration of items probably obtained from the dominant site of Chalcatzingo, marking the site as a subregional center. Otherwise, the ceramic and chipped stone assemblages at both sites appear to have been locally produced and/or procured at the household level.
