Abstract
Pohl summarizes the development of agriculture in Mesoamerica. She then goes on to summarize research in the wetlands of northern Belize (which included excavation and the taking of pollen cores) and to present evidence for the development of agriculture in the lowlands by around 5500 B.P. The evidence is mostly from non-archaeological remains such as pollen and charcoal.
