Abstract
This is an examination of the Cajamarca region of the North Peruvian highlands. Julien also examines the degree of interaction between this region and its neighbors. His major contribution is to offer a comprehensive typology of Cajamarca pottery styles based on his own excavations. He uses this typology to examine the records of other archaeologists who have worked in the wider area in order to measure the date and extent of Cajamarca traditions in the Northern Peru region. The periods Initial, Early, Middle, Late, and Final Cajamarca correspond to the Early Horizon to Late Intermediate Andean periods. However the document is indexed only for information pertaining to the Initial, Early, and Middle (Phase A) periods, which correspond to the period of Andean Regional Development.
