Abstract
The Chicha/Soras Valley represents the southern limit of the core area of Huari expansion. The Yako site in the valley contains remains of three structures and a terrace system covering 20 hectares. Located at an altitude of 3,330 m places the site near high-altitude pasture for alpaca breeding. Meddens believes that residents of the site produced food for camelid herders. Meddens also examines the Chiqna Jota site in the valley, a Middle Horizon, Epoch 2 site. The site covers 9, possibly 16 hectares, with 117 planned and unplanned structures. Meddens discusses evidence of an offering arrangement of non-ceremonial pottery, which may be part of a secularized non-state cult practice.
