The Yayoi lived in the Japanese Archipelago, mostly south of the island of Hokkaido, from 2500 to 1500 B.P. They were settled rice agriculturalists and their economy included some domesticated animals, some hunting and fishing, and bronze tools. Class stratification and warfare both increased as the time period progressed. Most authors/researchers believe at least some Yayoi were immigrants from China and the Korean Peninsula.
