The Impressed Ware tradition takes its name from the impressed ware pottery made by the people. Subsistence was based on a combination of foraging and food production, the proportions of each varying by location. Wheat and barley were the main plant domesticates and sheep and goats the main animal domesticates. There is some evidence of year-round occupation in coastal open-air sites. The Impressed Ware tradition dates from 6800 to 6000 BP (4800 - 4000 BC) and was located on the northern coast of the Mediterranean and Atlantic Iberia, extending from southern Italy to central Portugal.
