The Early Mesoamerican Archaic Tradition dates from 9600 to 7000 BP (7600 to 5000 BC) and is comprised of regionally variable sub-traditions. The tradition extends from northern Honduras through the Mexican border area of the southwestern United States. Seasonal transhumance was the norm, with occupation of both cave and open-air sites by family or small multifamily groups using stone and wood tools, basketry and netted fabrics in the pursuit of wild foods, supplemented to a small degree by incipient horticulture.
