Abstract
This is a general survey of nearly two dozen Neolithic sites in northern and northeastern India. Only those sites directly relevant to the Ganges Neolithic period, however, have been indexed for OCM codes. These include the sites of Koldihwa, Mahagara, and Chirand. The excavated material from these areas, in conjunction with their interpretation by the author, provides much information on Neolithic settlement patterns, subsistence activities, geography, rice cultivation, ceramics, house types , the economy, diet, and various aspects of tool technology.
