Abstract
The primary objective of the chronology presented in this document is to make possible the dating of the major regional culture processes involved in the development of the Toltec state. The only periods for which we have substantial information are the Early Postclassic, which coincides with Tula's apogee, and part of the Late Classic, when many of the social and economic processes that produced the Toltec state originated. This article does, however, briefly discuss some aspects of the Formative, Early Classic, and Late Postclassic occupations in the Tula region (p. 34). In this study pottery types have been used to define the major periods of human occupation at Tula, since they are by far the most common artifacts found at the site.
