Cultural identity and interregional interaction during the Gobernador phase: a ceramic perspective

By: Cyphers, Ann.

Abstract
This study compares Xochicalco's Gobernador phase ceramics (AD 650-900) with contemporaneous assemblages from other areas of Central Mexico during the Epiclassic period. Cyphers identifies differences in the distribution of red-on-brown Coyotlatelco style ceramics that may define cultural boundaries in the highlands during this period. Her analysis is an important contribution to defining ceramic spheres and identifying what they represent about sociopolitical and economic interactions during the Epiclassic.
