Abstract
Quilter presents an overview of Late Preceramic Peru. Much of this paper is based on data from coastal Peru, but only data that pertains to or may pertain to the highlands was indexed for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) codes. La Galgada (at 1500 m elevation) was considered a highland site for marking purposes, although many consider La Galgada a site intermediate between the coast and the highlands. Quilter discusses the various chronological systems used in Peru for the Preceramic period; the shift in subsistence strategies; construction techniques, particularly for religious structures; tools; mats, basketry, and net bags; cotton woven fabrics and possible clothing; burial practices; status; long-distance exchange; and the political and religious ideological world.
