Abstract
Sahara briefly describes the findings from the excavations at Yoshinogari. The site, like the description of Queen Himiko's residence in the WEI ZHI, had two watch towers and an earthen wall. The cemetery area contained 2,000 jar burials and 330 pit graves. The site also contained almost 50 storage houses and 100 pit dwellings. The outer moat was left open in the southwest and northeast providing access to two elite burial areas. 'Many ritual vessels were found by the side of the access path, suggesting that people of several villages under the control of Yoshinogari were obliged to come there to pay their respects.' (page 155).
