Abstract
This compilation of field reports for eleven seasons at Mehrgarh begins with an introduction in the original French, followed by an English translation, which provides the closest thing to a synthesis of the cumulative finds and the evolving hypotheses of the investigators, including pottery styles, settlement pattern, links with other traditions in Iran and Turkmenistan, economy, craft activities, and burial practices. Excavations at nearby sites, including Lal Shah and Sibri, have their own sections in the field reports. Materials called "ceramic Neolithic" are relevant to the Early Indus tradition, even where dating prior to 5500 BC (7500 BP).
