Abstract
The author describes processes involved in interpreting how fish bones are incorporated into the archaeological record, and generates models for what portions of fish skeletons might be expected to be present in different contexts, from waterside, to market, to the home. Excavation at Harappa regularly included screening with fine mesh and flotation, allowing recovery of small fish bones and the identification of 856 specimens. Coverage ranges from the Early Indus into the Vedic traditions; only data pertaining to the Mature Indus are relevant to this collection.
