AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This is a detailed report on the excavations at Kayatha. Wakankar describes where the excavations were placed, a little about the stratigraphy, and the artifacts found (such as Chalcolithic house remains, copper tools, stone tools, ceramic pots, ceramic figurines, beads, and seals). A little bit about the diet of these people was also learn, partly because some houses burned and left evidence of wheat, rice and other foods. Wakankar was also interested in the origin and development of the Chalcolithic in central Indian and on the Harappan and Pre-Harappan influences on the people of Kayatha. These influcences can be seen in some of the ceramic designs (some of which look like Harappan writing), the terracotta bulls, and a pyramidal object. Wakankar also discusses the spread and movement of the different ceramic types and peoples among other known central Indian Chalcolithic sites.
