AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
This excavation report on Nagda languished for several decades before being finalized by Banerjee and published in 1986. Despite that, it still has significance for today. Banerjee excavated the site in the mid-fifties using one large trench and several smaller trenches. The site is estimated to date from circa 3500 B.P.-2300 B.P. (1500 B.C. to 300 B.C.). Period I is the Chalcolithic period that was indexed for Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM) codes. Found at the site were artifacts of ceramic pots, terracotta figurines including one 'mother goddess figure,' microlithic tools, other stone tools such as querns, some copper ornaments, and architectural features such as ovens, floors and walls (some belonging to dwellings, others of unknown use), and a fortification and rampart along the river.
