Abstract
Kenyon excavated in several different areas on the tell site of Jericho, reaching Pre-Pottery Neolithic levels in 'sites D1 and F1.' She found the town had been walled since Pre-Pottery Neolithic times and believed the wall and tower were built for defensive purposes. More recently, other authors have viewed the wall as being built for flood control measures. The site is one of the earliest towns in the world and has evidence of sophisticated community organization (the walls and tower). Kenyon describes the excavations and set up, the problems with the stratigraphy and post-depositional processes, and her findings, most of which were walls, and the human remains.
